St. Louis Cardinals Set To Play 20 Games In 4 Days As Result Of Inability To Contain COVID Spread

by Drew Valdez

-- It was decided Friday that the St. Louis Cardinals will play all 20 of their postponed games within a four-day span after the ballclub struggled with containing the coronavirus when the season started. This was made possible when MLB found a four-day stretch in the schedule that will allow the organization to make up the games by playing quintuple-headers.

“It’s gonna be a grind for us,” manager Mike Matheny said as he tested positive for the virus.

Some general outlines for the four-game stretch are as stated by Rob Manfred:

“All games will be held at Busch Stadium and St. Louis will be playing several teams back to back to back to back to back. Due to having multiple games in one day, the team scheduled to play next will be warming up between innings in the outfield. Batting practice will take place in the parking lots across the street from the stadium. All teams waiting to play will help shag foul balls in the stands to repay the stadium staff for the accommodations.”

The MLB has outlined some guidelines in order to help combat the tough schedule:

  • A mandatory napping schedule will be implemented

  • Players will be on a strict micro-dosing regimen of meth and other performance-enhancing substances

  • Families will be exiled to Siberia to avoid time-wasting visits

  • No injuries will be allowed
