Stanton Strains Left Bicep In Opening Day Rain Delay Lift; 60 Day IL

by Kyle Robinson

-- As everyone looked forward to a much-needed opening day in the baseball season, Yankees star outfielder, Giancarlo Stanton, had other ideas.

During the fifth inning rain delay of the season opener between the Yankees and Nationals, Stanton felt it was a great opportunity to get workout number two out of three for the day out of the way. Stanton felt a severe strain during a burnout set of curls, which was quickly diagnosed as a 3rd-degree strain.

Some reports have Stanton in the team weight room as early as the fourth inning in anticipation of rain.

Stanton appeared in just 18 games a year prior due to a number of curl-related exercises. Some trainers throughout his big league career in Miami and New York have criticized the training program of his own.

“Yeah stretching and hydrating isn’t really my thing,” said Stanton from the trainers office. “I find that those make the muscles more durable and flexible which subtracts from the size.”

Stanton will be placed on the 60-Day Injured List (formerly known as the ‘Disabled List’ before everyone became so damn sensitive) which will take him most of the way through the shortened season.

Hal Steinbrenner expressed his disappointment with the tens of millions wasted for a second straight year by releasing the entire AA roster to ‘increase financial flexibility.’
